Creamy Sauce Recipe for Fish Tacos: Zesty Lime & Cilantro Dressing

Originally I developed this creamy avocado sauce while searching for a rich, flavorful topping to pair with pan-seared salmon. After many experiments, I landed on a bright, silky sauce that quickly became a household favorite.

Creamy Avocado Fish Taco Sauce Recipe

This creamy avocado sauce is a versatile, flavorful condiment made from avocado, fresh basil, olive oil, light cream (or half & half), garlic, lemon juice, salt, and pepper. The avocado brings a fresh, buttery texture while basil, lemon, and garlic contribute bright, savory notes that balance the sauce beautifully.

What to Put It on

This avocado sauce is ideal for fish tacos, but it also pairs wonderfully with a variety of dishes. A few favorites:

  • Blackened fish tacos
  • Shrimp tacos
  • Sesame beef tacos
  • Pan-seared salmon

How to Make Creamy Avocado Sauce

Place all ingredients in a blender or food processor and blend until smooth. If the sauce is too thick, add a splash of cream, a little extra olive oil, or a touch of water to reach the desired consistency. For fish tacos, a slightly thinner texture makes the sauce easier to drizzle.

If you don’t have a full-size blender, a single-serve blender or NutriBullet will work fine.
