Easy Cream Cheese Icing!

A real cream cheese frosting that tastes amazing on cakes, cupcakes and more!

The BEST Cream Cheese Frosting recipe ever! So rich and creamy, perfect for carrot cake, banana cake and whoopie pies!

I love cream cheese frosting. Let me correct myself… I love homemade cream cheese frosting.

Once you learn how to make it at home, you’ll never go back to store-bought frosting. This recipe yields a light, fluffy frosting with the right level of sweetness—perfect for cakes, cupcakes, cookies, and more.

You only need four simple ingredients: real butter, cream cheese, vanilla (paste or extract), and powdered sugar.

If you can’t find vanilla paste, plain vanilla extract works fine. I prefer the paste because it adds tiny flecks of vanilla bean for a prettier, more flavorful result.

Fancy, yet easy!

Ingredients

  • 16 oz. cream cheese room temperature
  • 2 sticks of butter room temperature
  • 2 teaspoon vanilla paste or extract
  • 2 cups powdered sugar

Instructions

  • Cream the room-temperature cream cheese and butter together in a large bowl until the mixture is light and fluffy. An electric hand mixer makes this quick and easy.
  • Add the powdered sugar and vanilla paste or extract, then continue beating until smooth and fully combined.
  • If the frosting is too thick, add a tablespoon of milk at a time until you reach your desired consistency.
  • Store the frosting covered in the refrigerator until you’re ready to use it. For easier spreading, bring it back to room temperature and briefly re-whip before decorating.
