Crispy Spicy Baked BBQ Chicken Wings Recipe

Spicy Baked BBQ Chicken Wings

Grab a napkin—these spicy baked BBQ chicken wings are irresistibly saucy and bound to make your mouth water. I keep coming back to wings because they’re quick to prepare, full of flavor, and perfect for sharing.

They’re sticky, mildly spicy, and satisfyingly crunchy on the outside while staying juicy inside. Whether for game night, a casual dinner, or a weekend snack, these wings are always a hit.

I usually serve them with crisp vegetables like carrot sticks, celery, mixed greens, or freshly baked rolls. Baked fries are a great side too, and I never skip a bowl of Ranch dressing and extra hot BBQ sauce for dipping.

Spicy Baked BBQ Chicken Wings

These wings are addictive and surprisingly simple to make. If you enjoyed my honey-sriracha wings from a few years back, you’ll love this BBQ version just as much—equally finger-licking good.

If you’re feeding a crowd or have hearty eaters, double the recipe—you’ll be glad you did.

NOTE: Keep raw meat, poultry, seafood, and eggs separate from other foods at the grocery store and in the refrigerator.

For a low-carb option, serve these wings with roasted cauliflower and cheese and choose a sugar-free BBQ sauce to keep the meal keto-friendly. Cauliflower pairs beautifully with the smoky, spicy flavors of the wings.

  • Chill: Refrigerate leftovers at 40ºF (4ºC) or below within two hours.
  • Clean: Wash surfaces and utensils after use. Wash fruits and vegetables before preparing, even if you plan to peel them.
  • Separate: Use separate cutting boards and plates for produce and raw meat, poultry, seafood, and eggs to avoid cross-contamination.
  • Cook: Always use a food thermometer to ensure safe internal temperatures (165ºF for poultry).

Easy recipe for tasty Spicy Baked BBQ Chicken Wings

Ingredients

  • 3–4 pounds whole chicken wings, separated into sections
  • Rub:
  • 1 teaspoon Himalayan pink salt or regular salt
  • 1 teaspoon ground black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon chili powder
  • 2 teaspoons dried parsley (optional)
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour (use gluten-free if needed)
  • Sauce:
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 cup BBQ sauce (choose your favorite; sugar-free for low-carb)
  • 1/4 cup hot sauce or more to taste (sriracha works great)
  • Garnish:
  • Sesame seeds

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 450°F (230°C).
  2. Place the wings in a large bowl. If desired, separate the drumette from the flat and discard or save the tips for soup. Separating helps them bake faster and more evenly.
  3. Combine the rub ingredients. Add half the rub to the wings, toss to coat, then add the remaining rub and toss again to ensure even coverage.
  4. Arrange the wings in a single layer on a baking sheet. Line the sheet with parchment or use a baking rack for best air circulation.
  5. Bake for 15 minutes, flip the wings, then bake another 15 minutes. For extra crunch, flip again and broil for 2–7 minutes, watching closely so they don’t burn—broiler times vary by oven.
  6. While the wings bake, whisk together the sauce ingredients.
  7. When the wings are done, brush the sauce onto both sides and spoon any remaining sauce over the wings. Serve immediately, garnished with sesame seeds if desired.

Notes

You can make these in an air fryer as well; adjust time and temperature based on your model for similar crispy results.
