Swiss Roll Mousse Cake blends nostalgic childhood flavors with an indulgent adult favorite.

As a child, Swiss Rolls were a lunchtime highlight. Today I still enjoy them, but my love of chocolate mousse has grown even stronger.

This simple dessert pairs those two favorites into one elegant, easy-to-make treat. If you can slice Swiss Rolls and melt chocolate, you can assemble this cake with confidence.

Begin by slicing the Swiss Rolls into rounds—I typically get about six slices per roll. Choose an 8×8 inch glass baking dish so the layered presentation of the rolls remains visible.

Some slices may not cut perfectly; those imperfect pieces make a tasty snack while you work. Reserve a few intact slices to use as a garnish if you like.

For the filling, make a straightforward chocolate mousse: melt chocolate chips with a splash of heavy cream, let the mixture cool slightly, then gently fold in whipped cream until smooth and airy.
Pour the mousse over the lined Swiss Roll slices, spreading evenly. Chill the assembled dessert in the refrigerator for at least two hours, though overnight gives the best texture and allows the flavors to meld.
My family found it hard to resist sampling while it set—if that happens, be sure to save a slice or two for decoration.
