Greek-Style Turkey Burgers with Tzatziki and Feta

Greek Turkey Burgers – a fresh twist on burger night. Lean turkey patties seasoned with Greek flavors, topped with tzatziki and crumbled feta.

We’re wrapping up the first week of summer break and it’s been a good one. My son tried golf lessons for the first time and loved them. He spent afternoons playing with friends, went to the pool, and enjoyed plenty of downtime after a busy school year. Next week he’ll be at science camp for two weeks — something he’s done before and is excited to do again.

During summer I often default to burgers for an easy dinner. Grilling is quick and forgiving: I might make chicken taco burgers, classic beef burgers, or spicy jalapeño turkey burgers. Changing the protein and seasonings keeps things interesting, and tossing patties on the grill is so simple. I have a soft spot for Greek flavors, so this time I added oregano and garlic to lean turkey and topped the finished burgers with a bright tzatziki sauce and crumbled feta. It’s an easy way to enjoy Mediterranean flavors on a busy weeknight.

These Greek turkey burgers come together fast with just a few ingredients. I used ready-to-go herb and garlic pastes from Gourmet Garden for convenience, but fresh or dried seasonings work too. The patties include grated and drained zucchini for moisture, minced garlic, chopped red onion, oregano, salt and pepper. The tzatziki is simply plain Greek yogurt mixed with shredded, drained cucumber, lemon juice, garlic and dill for a cool, tangy sauce. Top each burger with a spoonful of tzatziki and a sprinkle of feta for a satisfying finish.

  • 1/2 cup red onion, finely chopped
  • 1 Tablespoon dried oregano
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper

Tzatziki Sauce

  • 1/2 cup plain Greek yogurt
  • 1/4 cup cucumber, shredded and drained
  • 1 Tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1 teaspoon minced garlic
  • 1/2 teaspoon fresh dill
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt

Toppings

  • 4 hamburger buns
  • Feta cheese, to taste

Instructions

  1. Preheat the grill to high heat.
  2. In a large bowl combine ground turkey, grated zucchini (drained), garlic, red onion, oregano, salt and pepper. Mix gently and form into four even patties.
  3. Grill the patties 5–6 minutes per side, or until cooked through. During the last 2 minutes, place buns on the grill to lightly toast, if desired.
  4. While the burgers cook, make the tzatziki by stirring together Greek yogurt, shredded cucumber (well drained), lemon juice, minced garlic, dill and salt. Chill until ready to serve.
