Caesar salad wraps and sandwiches have been trending on social media, and this is my over-the-top take. The result is an addictive sandwich that’s easy to adapt: swap the pan-fried chicken for grilled or sautéed if you prefer, or use store-bought dressing to save time.

Chicken Caesar Salad Sandwiches

The homemade Caesar dressing elevates this sandwich, but a store-bought version will work in a pinch. If anchovies aren’t your thing, leave them out—this dressing still delivers plenty of savory, tangy flavor.

Panko-breaded chicken is pan-fried until golden and crisp, giving a crunchy contrast to the bright, dressed romaine. If you prefer, grilled or pan-seared chicken is an easy substitute and still creates a delicious sandwich.

For easier prep, measure the breading ingredients and make the dressing a day ahead. Small tasks done in advance make assembling this sandwich quick and stress-free when hunger hits.

Key Ingredients

Chicken – thinly sliced breasts or cutlets work best; you can trim and slice full breasts if needed.

Caesar dressing – my easy homemade dressing combines mayonnaise, Dijon, Worcestershire, lemon juice, fresh garlic, Parmesan, salt and pepper; anchovy paste is optional.

Texas Toast – garlic-butter Texas toast from the frozen aisle, such as New York or Pepperidge Farm-style loaves.

Cheese – mild sandwich cheeses like Monterey Jack, mozzarella, Havarti, or pepper jack melt well without overpowering the salad.

Romaine – chopped romaine for the Caesar salad.

Parmesan – shaved Parmesan for finishing the salad.

Croutons – crushed croutons add extra crunch.

Panko breadcrumbs – panko creates a light, extra-crispy crust.

Flour, eggs, milk – for a classic three-step breading station: flour, egg wash (with a splash of milk), then panko.

Seasonings – garlic powder, onion powder, paprika, salt and pepper to season both the flour and panko.

Oil – for frying; omit if you grill the chicken.

How to Make Chicken Caesar Salad Sandwich

Prep the Dressing

Combine the dressing ingredients in a food processor or blender and blend until smooth. Store in an airtight container in the refrigerator; it keeps for 4–5 days, so making it ahead saves time on the day you assemble sandwiches.

Bread the Chicken

Set up three shallow dishes: seasoned flour (flour, paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, pepper), an egg-and-milk wash, and panko mixed with salt and pepper. Dredge the chicken in flour, dip in the egg wash, then press into the panko so each piece is fully coated.

Fry the Chicken

Heat oil to about 350°F (175°C) in a large skillet. Fry two pieces at a time until golden brown on both sides and the internal temperature reaches 165°F (74°C). Drain on a cooling rack over foil so excess oil collects beneath the rack.

Make the Texas Toast

Bake the Texas toast according to package directions. Add a slice of cheese to each piece, then switch the oven to broil for 1–2 minutes to melt and lightly brown the cheese—watch closely to prevent burning.

Toss the Salad

Toss chopped romaine with crushed croutons, shaved Parmesan, and the prepared Caesar dressing until everything is evenly coated.
