Ingredients

  • 1 tablespoon extra virgin olive oil
  • 1 pound sweet Italian sausage
  • 1/2 large onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, finely chopped
  • 8 ounces cream cheese, softened
  • 1 1/2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese, divided
  • 1 1/2 cup Italian cheese blend, divided
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1 jar (14 ounces) pizza sauce
  • 1 cup mini pepperoni
  • 1-2 loaves bread for dipping

Instructions

  • Heat the olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the sausage and break it into small pieces as it cooks. Drain most of the excess fat. Reduce heat to medium, push sausage to the side, and cook the chopped onion and garlic in the center until tender. Stir everything together and remove from heat.
  • Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C).
  • In a bowl, combine the sausage mixture with the cream cheese, 3/4 cup mozzarella, 3/4 cup Italian cheese blend, and oregano. Spread evenly into a 10×8-inch baking dish. Top with the pizza sauce and a sprinkle of mini pepperoni, reserving about 1/4 cup for garnish. Add the remaining cheese, then finish with the reserved mini pepperoni.
  • Cover the dish with foil and bake for 30–35 minutes. Remove the foil, switch the oven to broil, and broil 3–5 minutes more until the top is golden and bubbly.
  • Serve hot with sliced bread for dipping.

Notes

You can assemble the dip the night before and refrigerate it. If chilled before baking, increase the bake time to about 45 minutes so it’s fully heated through.
