The top 10 recipes on Downshiftology this year blended healthy basics with easy weeknight meals. Building on last year’s video momentum, egg tutorials continued to stand out as some of the most popular content.

Top 10 Recipes Of 2019
2019 was a year of significant growth for Downshiftology. I’ve mentioned this before, but it remains true and I’m genuinely grateful. The site reached more people than ever, but it’s the supportive community that keeps me inspired day after day. Thank you to all the loyal Downshifters who made this possible.
Website traffic increased dramatically, with content viewed more than 28 million times (up from 10 million in 2018). YouTube growth was especially exciting. I began the year with 375,000 subscribers and ended with 780,000, surpassing the 500,000 milestone well ahead of expectations.
Two videos hit the one million view mark: How to Boil Eggs Perfectly and Spiralizer Beginner’s Guide. Additionally, two videos have each surpassed 6 million views: How to Poach an Egg and my Meal Prep Ideas video. It’s been surprising and rewarding to see simple tutorials—like one on poached eggs—reach so many people.
This year I also welcomed my first full-time employee, which was an important step. I have plans to expand the team in 2020, since running everything alone is no longer realistic. Working with others brings fresh ideas and makes successes even more enjoyable.
I launched a private Facebook group to create a space for our community to ask questions, share tips and photos, and support one another. In the first six months nearly 10,000 members joined, forming a warm and helpful community from around the world.
So which recipes were the most popular this year? The list reflects Downshiftology’s foundation: healthy basics and approachable weeknight meals. Fan favorites included baked sweet potato, shredded chicken, lentils, and coleslaw dressing, along with comfort dishes like falafel, crispy baked chicken, and zucchini lasagna. As usual, a dessert edged into the top 10—candied orange peel, a seasonal delight.
Looking at my Top 9 on Instagram, the year showed a mix of family, food, and community moments. There were highs and deep lows—2019 was marked by the passing of my dad, one of the toughest experiences I’ve faced. Still, the year also brought growth, new videos, and more non-recipe posts that readers have enjoyed.
After the ups and downs of 2019, I’m looking forward to a new year and a new decade. Here’s to making 2020 a great one.
