This creepy, layered shot looks like zombie brains in a jar — perfect for spooking guests at Halloween parties.

Halloween is the ideal time to serve creepy cocktails and spooky shots. These layered drinks are a fun, theatrical addition to any party and always get a reaction.
In past years I’ve made blood bag drinks and polyjuice potion shots with great success. This season I’m serving three different “brain” shots — and this zombie brain shot is my favorite. It looks gross and unsettling, but it tastes surprisingly good: a perfect mix of trick and treat.
Ingredients

-
Peach Schnapps – You can substitute triple sec if you prefer.
-
Grenadine – For the vivid red color, use Rose’s Grenadine rather than a natural alternative.
-
Irish Cream – Bailey’s Irish Cream gives the right texture that creates the brain-like curds.
-
Midori – Midori works best for flavor and color, though creme de menthe can be used as an alternative.

Tips
-
Use a bar spout on your bottles or a small measuring beaker to control pours. That makes layered shots neater and helps form the brain texture when adding the Irish cream.
-
The same ingredients can create variations like the classic brain hemorrhage shot; add blue curaçao for an alien-style version.
-
Some instructions suggest pouring Bailey’s over the back of a spoon, but you can also drizzle it directly in a slow, looping motion (similar to making funnel cakes). That technique forms a more convincing brain texture.

Zombie Brain Shot
A creepy layered shot that looks like zombie brains in a jar.

Prep Time: 5 minutes
Cook Time: 0 minutes
Total Time: 5 minutes
Servings: 1 shot
Ingredients
- 1 ounce Peach Schnapps
- .5 ounce Bailey’s Irish Cream
- splash Grenadine
- .25 ounce Midori
Instructions
-
Pour 1 ounce peach schnapps into a clear shot glass to form the base layer.
-
Slowly drizzle 0.5 ounce Bailey’s Irish Cream over the top in a looping, funnel-cake motion. The cream will curdle slightly and create the brain-like texture.
-
Add a splash of grenadine through the middle of the “brains” so it sinks into the center and looks bloody.
-
Gently pour 0.25 ounce Midori over the top so it floats and adds a greenish hue to the brain texture.
-
Serve immediately. Cheers and enjoy!
